The honest answer: pet smells are gases and odours, and EPA publishes no CADR for gases or odours. There is no published minimum for your room size, no comparable figure between brands, and no honest way to size a machine for a smell.
What a purifier can honestly do in an animal household is the rated work: dander, dust and the fine particles that ride along. The smell needs a different plan, source control first, carbon second, and expectations calibrated to the absence of any number.
The honest answer#
No published CADR exists for pet odours. A box promising to "eliminate" them is quoting a claim no standardised test produced.
What is published for the same room: a CADR for particles. The litter tray’s aerosol and the wet-dog smell are outside that arithmetic entirely.
Why there is no number#
CADR is defined for particles, smoke, dust and pollen. Odours are gas-phase molecules, and the published test measures none of them.
That is not a gap in the marketing; it is a gap in the physics of the rating. Different problem, different tools.
What carbon actually does#
Activated carbon adsorbs a range of gas-phase molecules, and a carbon stage genuinely takes the edge off pet odours in a closed room.
What it does not carry is a comparable number. Two carbon filters cannot be honestly ranked against each other by anything on the box, carbon filters are chosen by fit and replaced by calendar, not by spec.

Where the marketing overreaches#
"Odour elimination" percentages, "odour CADR" and "smell score" are not published measurements. The published measurements are three particle columns.
If a brand shows a number for odours, ask what tested it. The honest answer is that nothing comparable exists.
