Air Purifier for a Home office: What Size You Need

A home office is usually the smallest room you will size, and the arithmetic is short: most offices sit at or under the 100 sq ft row, where the published minimum is 65 cfm. Anything up to the 200 sq ft row takes 130 cfm.
The room’s real constraint is not sizing. It is that you sit in it on calls while the machine runs. Fan noise competes with meeting noise, and the honest fix is sizing up so the unit can live on low.
What the published table gives a home office#
The published rows start at 100 sq ft = 65 cfm. Small offices sit on or under that row; larger ones take the 130 cfm row at 200 sq ft. Below the smallest row there is nothing to round down to, so the smallest published minimum already covers you, generously, which is the right direction to err.
The minimum assumes an 8-foot ceiling, which offices almost always have. The arithmetic ends there.
Fan noise versus call noise#
Every machine is quietest on its low setting. A unit that meets the published minimum on low disappears into most calls; an undersized one stuck on high hums through yours.
So the sizing rule and the noise rule point the same way: buy for the minimum, run on low. Compare quiet models and judge them on the low setting, which is where a correctly sized unit should live.

Lunch smells, coffee, the bin: odour claims have no published CADR behind them. The machine’s rated work is particles.
And if the box quotes MERV, that is a furnace-filter rating, not a room-size rating. No published table turns a MERV figure into square feet.
