Do Air Purifiers Help With Carpet Fibres?

particle pollutant

rated, fibres are particles

the coarse end of what CADR covers

The honest answer: carpet fibres are particles, the coarse end of the range, and the dust CADR rates their removal from the air.

The honest caveat: fibres mostly move when the carpet is walked on, vacuumed badly, or cleaned. The vacuum with the right setting is the primary tool; the purifier catches the share that stays airborne.

Are carpet fibres a particle?#

Yes, shed fibres from pile and backing, released by traffic and age. They sit toward the coarse end of the particle range, alongside the dust class.

Fine dust travels with them: the grey line under the sofa is fibres and tracked-in grit and skin flakes together.

What the rating covers#

The dust CADR covers dust-class particles, fibres included. The smoke column marks the fine fraction that stays airborne longest.

There is no separate published "fibre" rating, any box implying one is decorating the same three particle columns.

What sizing means here#

The room row governs: published rows, rounded up between rows, 8-foot ceiling. A carpeted living room between the 300 and 400 sq ft rows takes 260 cfm.

Fibres are coarse enough that the pre-filter catches much of the share, and the main filter still ages, so replacements stay on the calendar.

Limits and honest caveats#

  • Vacuum slowly and often; agitation without capture just rearranges the dust.
  • A doormat and shoes-off policy shrink the tracked-in share, source control, free.
  • Run the purifier continuously in carpeted rooms in use; resuspension is constant.
  • The purifier does not clean the carpet. The carpet is the source; manage it accordingly.

Where the marketing overreaches#

"Fibre capture" badges are not published tests. The three CADR columns are the test.

And "deep-cleaning air" is poetry. Air cleaners move air; carpets are cleaned by machines with brushes.
